What We Handle

Specialist recovery for accident situations

Accident recovery is not the same as standard breakdown towing. A vehicle that's been in a collision may have structural damage, deployed airbags, locked wheels, fluid leaks, or suspension failure — all of which require specific handling and equipment to load safely without causing further damage.

Operators on our marketplace are experienced in post-collision recovery. They attend with flatbeds and appropriate rigging, assess the vehicle carefully before loading, and transport it to your chosen destination — bodyshop, insurance-approved repairer, storage, or home.

After an accident your priority is safety and documentation: ensure everyone is safe, call 999 if there's an injury, and exchange details with the other driver. Once that's done, request recovery and an operator will handle everything from there.

What to do immediately after a collision

  1. Stop and stay at the scene — leaving is a criminal offence if someone is injured or property is damaged.
  2. Check for injuries. Call 999 if anyone is hurt or if the road is blocked.
  3. Switch on hazard lights and, if safe, move to the side of the road.
  4. On a motorway: exit from the left, stay behind the barrier, and keep away from the carriageway.
  5. Exchange details: name, address, phone, registration, and insurance information with the other driver.
  6. Take photos of both vehicles, the scene, damage, and any road markings.
  7. Once safe and details are exchanged, request recovery.

Fixed price agreed before departure

Accident recovery is priced on vehicle type and distance, confirmed as a fixed quote before the operator dispatches. No unexpected charges at the scene.

FAQs

Common questions about accident recovery

Does my insurance cover accident recovery?

Many comprehensive car insurance policies include accident recovery as standard, but the level of cover varies. Some policies only cover recovery to the nearest safe location — not to a destination of your choice. Check your policy documents or call your insurer before assuming you're covered. If you need recovery before you can confirm cover, you can request through Snap and claim the cost back from your insurer afterwards — we provide receipts and documentation.

Should I call the police before requesting recovery?

If the accident involves injury to any person, call 999 immediately — this is a legal requirement. You must also report it if the other driver didn't stop or didn't give their details, or if road signs, barriers, or property were damaged. For minor accidents where everyone is unharmed and details have been exchanged, you're not required to call police at the scene — but you must report it to your insurer within a reasonable time. Once the scene is safe and details are exchanged, you can request recovery.

What details should I exchange at the scene?

Collect the other driver's name, address, phone number, vehicle registration, insurance company and policy number. Take photos of the damage to both vehicles, the scene, any road markings, and any visible injuries. If there are witnesses, take their contact details. This documentation is useful for your insurer and any potential insurance claim.

Can you recover a vehicle from a motorway after a collision?

Yes. Operators cover motorways and major A-roads across the UK. On a motorway, move behind the barrier if it's safe to do so and stay there — away from the carriageway. Highways England may also have already contacted a motorway recovery operator via the CCTV network. If police are present, they manage the scene — operators work within any traffic management in place.

Can you recover a seriously damaged vehicle?

Yes. Operators are experienced with vehicles that have structural damage, deployed airbags, fluid leaks, locked wheels, or can't be loaded in the normal way. They carry flatbeds and specialist rigging for exactly these situations.

Where will my vehicle be taken?

You choose — your preferred bodyshop, your insurer's approved repairer, a storage facility, your home, or anywhere else in the UK. There's no restricted list.

My vehicle is leaking fluid after the accident. Can it still be recovered?

Yes. Operators carry absorbent materials and are trained to manage vehicles with coolant, oil, or fuel leaks safely during loading and transport.

How does payment work?

A booking fee is paid upfront to confirm the job. The balance is paid directly to the operator on completion. If your insurance is paying, we provide receipts and documentation to support your claim.
